Ania Moussawel

Ania Moussawel is a visual artist and educator born and raised in Miami, Florida. She received her MFA in Photo, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in New York, New York (2012). Her work in photography emphasizes themes of motherhood and identity. Her solo exhibitions include “The Days are Long”, Soho Photo Gallery, New York, New York (2022), “Close to Home”, O Cinema/Oolite Arts, Miami Beach, Florida (2014) and “Recent Photographs by Ania Moussawel”, Biscayne Bay Photo Gallery at Florida International University, Biscayne Bay, Florida (2007). Her group exhibitions include “Nuestro Ancestros”, Art Museum of the Americas, Washington DC, (2024), "Image as Object: Alternatives 2023", Ohio University Art Gallery, Athens, Ohio (2023), “Context 2022”, Filter Photo, Chicago, Illinois (2022), and “Contemporary Portrait: A National Juried Exhibition”, Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, Lubbock, Texas (2021), among others. Moussawel is alumni of the Oolite Studio Residency Program, Miami Beach, Florida (2014) and School of Visual Arts Photography Residency, New York, New York (2008). She is the recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium (2024), Miami Individual Artist Grant, Miami, Florida (2022-2024), a semifinalist in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, National Portrait Gallery, Washington DC (2022), Critical Mass finalist (2022-2024) and the winner of an Ellies Teacher Travel Grant from Oolite Arts, Miami Beach, Florida (2021).
