Call to Artists: Coined in the South

The Young Affiliates of the Mint, in collaboration with The Mint Museum, is thrilled to announce an open call for art submissions for the third installment of "Coined in the South," a prestigious juriedexhibition celebrating Southern Artistic Excellence.  

Overview: "Coined in the South" seeks to bridge the gap between museums, galleries, and studios by presenting a wide range of artistic expressions. The exhibition transcends singular aesthetics, themes, or mediums, reflecting the rich diversity and creative spirit of the southern arts community. 

This juried exhibition, scheduled to run from December 14, 2024, to April 27, 2025 at the Mint Museum Uptown (300 S. Tryon St., Charlotte), will showcase the diverse and thought-provoking works of emerging talents from the southern United States. 

Honorarium and Awards: 

Prize Awards: 

●  One $10,000 Atrium Health Foundation juror-awarded grand prize 

●  One $5,000 Young Affiliates of the Mint member-awarded prize 

●  One $1,000 “People’s Choice” prize awarded by the public at the conclusion of the show. 

All selected artists will receive a $350 stipend to assist with shipping and travel expenses.

●  Dr. Marshall N. Price, Chief Curator and Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Duke University 

●  Dr. Victoria Ramirez, Executive Director, Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts 

●  Stephanie J. Woods, Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Art, University of New Mexico 

Eligibility Criteria: Artists who were born/raised in, work in, or currently reside in Alabama, Arkansas, Coined in the South, Georgia, Kentucky, FLORIDA, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia are eligible to apply. 

Entry Fee: 

●  The entry fee is $40, allowing each artist to submit up to three (3) works.
