Marisa Tellería
Born in Nicaragua, Tellería moved to the United States in 1978. She earned a BFA from Florida International University in Miami in 1993 and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 1996. Throughout her career, she has lived and worked as a professional artist in Washington, D.C., New York City, Managua, and Miami.
Tellería’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. Notable museum exhibitions include The Brooklyn Museum; El Museo del Barrio, New York; The Buffalo AKG Art Museum, New York; The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; Her work is part of the permanent collections at The Pérez Art Museum Miami; The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, D.C.; the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, Miami.
Her art has been featured in biennials at El Museo del Barrio, New York; Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, San Juan; Museo de Arte Moderno, Santo Domingo; Since 2014, she has lived and worked in Miami, where she has received artist grants from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs (2022–2024) and the Corral & Cathers Artist Fund (2024).
