About the Artist

Marilyn Valiente multimedia visual artist living in South Florida for most of her life. She immigrated to the United States as a young child with her parents and sister. After her bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Florida, she continued her education in psychology having achieved a master’s degree in mental health counseling and a PhD in pastoral psychology. While working as a cognitive behavioral therapist, she was deeply interested in repeated patterns, both in our way of thinking, and in the stories we tell ourselves and others. Now as a full-time artist, with a studio in Miami International Fine Art in the Doral area, she gives voice to that interest in the form of visual representation. Her artwork is gritty intensely layered with bold colors, repeated patterns, texture, and text. It is often a mixture of abstract and reality as it deals with women issues, human struggles, and spiritual and social concerns, in hope to increase awareness and change.
