Charo Oquet

Charo Oquet, Dominican-born, Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Charo Oquet's multifaceted practice spans performance, sculpture, installation, painting, video, ceramics, and photography. Her awards include the Latinx Artist Fellowship (2024) and Ellies Creator Award (2020). Oquet's intricate mixed-media works incorporate found objects and recycled materials, reworking visual references from her Afro-Caribbean culture and rituals research. Using various media, she investigates issues of displacement, identity, migration, and sociopolitical concerns, documenting and reflecting on decolonial aesthetics and the role of contemporary culture. Oquet's work has been extensively exhibited globally, with positive reviews from critics and recognition by scholars. She is also the founder of the community arts initiative Edge Zones, and her work is held in prominent collections.
