Wayne R. Dawkins
About the Artist
A Jamaican-born man who learned his trade in the field of construction, laboring and developing his natural ability for carpentry. Wayne has over 20 years of hands-on work experience in the field of carpentry and construction.
While working on a construction site in Kingston, Jamaica in October 2013, Wayne R. Dawkins began to experience an inexplicable dimming in his vision. In the short time it took him to put down his skill saw and walk towards a nearby window, his vision had deteriorated dramatically, resulting in a trip to the hospital where he was diagnosed as having a stroke in his eyes due to glaucoma. After multiple procedures, including laser surgery, stem cell implants and retinal attachment surgery, he was forced to accept that he would slowly, but inevitably, lose his vision completely.
In spite of his sight loss, Wayne Dawkins is driven by his devotion to share and teach his vast knowledge, utilizing his artwork during mentoring and educational sessions. Using his passion for art and his love for working with his hands, Wayne uses a variety of wood based mediums to create his masterpieces.
