Altered Books

Featuring mixed media artist Maria Patiño. Together, we’ll learn techniques for creating art journals with recycled books using paint, ink, collage, drawing and found objects. This is a fun exploration of your deepest creative urges and connects you to a flow of ideas for self-expression.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Maria works intuitively, guided by memories and imagination. She's interested in the aesthetic of color, texture, and the use of unexpected juxtapose creatures to create a universal language. Her work is an ongoing investigation that involves human relationships with the environment, the use of discarded mass-produced items, broken or torn items find a new purpose in Maria's studio. She finds these urban objects to be part of human historical ruins. Geographical artifacts that connect time, space, and human trace. Scraps from old books, magazines, and other discarded ephemera become elements of her artwork. Maria Patiño's artwork is diverse, ranging from artists' books, large size collages, and mixed media artwork on a variety of surfaces.
