Scott McKinley - Mercy Seat - Shelter

Scott McKinley, a fourth-generation Florida native, draws inspiration from the luminous landscapes of the Atlantic coastline, Everglades, and Florida prairies. Born in Melbourne, Florida, his early life was imbued with the open skies and rhythmic ocean waves that now influence his abstract art. McKinley’s work is deeply rooted in the natural interplay of light, color, and form, reflecting his lifelong connection to the vibrant environment surrounding him.

His artistic process is a journey of discovery, where color, surface, and gesture come together to reveal expressive forms. McKinley's paintings often begin on raw canvas, evolving through layers of color applied with various tools before being stretched and refined on the studio wall. Drawing is a fundamental aspect of his practice, serving both as standalone art and as a catalyst for new directions in his paintings.

With a B.F.A. in painting, a Master’s in Sculpture, and an M.F.A. in Inter-media, McKinley has balanced teaching with his personal art practice. His work has been exhibited in group shows and is housed in private collections and institutions like the University of South Florida School of Medicine, echoing his profound connection to Florida's landscapes and his commitment to exploring visual harmony.
